Play Therapy for children in Uptown Minneapolis, MN
Play Therapy is the act of engaging a child in the language that they actively live. The ability to effectively relate to your child at this fundamental level provides the therapist a unique opportunity to coexist with the thoughts, feelings and lived experience of the child.
Just as "Andrew" in the video to the right is capable of much more advanced thought processing than his age would suggest, so is the requirement that a good therapist enter the unique world of the child. Play therapy is the tool, when skillfully utilized that grants us the privilege to actually begin hearing the young person's needs and unbiased wants--not as demands or as "bad behaviors" but as the beginnings of an individual who is just learning how to express their wants and needs. Introducing your child to play therapy is a gift which allows a child to begin better understanding their own desires and this will potentially allow them to better communicate themselves to you the parent. |
