Uptown Therapy MPLS
My philosophy (for more, click "My Blog")Therapy is an attempt to reduce and compensate for the varying degrees of stress placed upon the individual. Major life events have correspondingly negative impacts upon one's sense of self and when there is a lack of adequate support negative habits and patterns are engaged to compensate for the loss of connection in our daily lives. Our ability to maintain ourselves and resiliently manage all forms of stress is directly proportional to our ability to identify and adapt to both small and large negative events. The small events that occur throughout the day may seem imperceptible but they can have an ever increasingly and compounding effect; which, over time, can have similarly powerful effects as that of negative major life events.
"Good" or "bad" all events are stressful and over-time even the "small stuff" can impact our positive levels of satisfaction and one's sense of total fulfillment. Therapy is an attempt to bring to one's attention, not only the more recognizable traumas, but also the smaller events that make up our daily lives, habits and patterns. It is, also, a mutually interactive event that through thoughtful analysis and engagement the smallest stressors, as well as, the more obvious damaging events can be identified and repurposed. There is a science and art implied to therapy. The problem with taking a wholly scientific direction is that there isn't any physical, localizable "pathogen" that science can identify and with laser surgical precision remove. That is where the art of therapy steps in and with analytic but gentle modulation the physical stressors and their mental representations can be located. This allows for a creative liveliness to engage the problem. Then the ideas and energy connected to the problem can be positively identified and redirected into more purposeful behaviors and responses. I also maintain a profile on Wellness.com. |
